Matar Pulao recipe
A simple, fragrant pulao with green peas and whole spices.

Ingredients
- 1/2 kg rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
- 1/2 cup cooking oil
- Whole spices (sabit garam masala)
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste (adrak lehsan)
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup peas
- 1 1/2 tablespoons salt
- 1/2 tablespoon red chili flakes
- 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder (haldi)
- 4 to 5 green chilies, chopped
- 3 glasses of water
Method
- In a pot, heat the cooking oil and add the whole spices. Let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add the sliced onions and fry until they turn light brown.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
- Add the peas, salt, red chili flakes, turmeric powder and green chilies. Fry for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add the water and cover the pot until it comes to a boil.
- Add the soaked rice to the pot. Cook, covered, until the water level reduces.
- Now cover the pot and let it steam on a low flame for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Your matar pulao is ready to enjoy.
