Ingredients

  • For the sugar syrup
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • For the milk mixture
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/2 cup milk powder
  • 1 cup water (for mixing with the milk powder)
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons khoya (mawa)
  • 1/4 cup condensed milk
  • To assemble
  • 6 to 8 slices of bread
  • Oil, for frying
  • Dry fruits for garnish (chopped almonds, pistachios or cashews)

Method

Prepare the sugar syrup

  1. In a pan, combine the 2 cups of water with the 1/2 cup sugar. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Simmer for a few minutes to create a thin sugar syrup. Set aside and let it cool.

Prepare the milk mixture

  1. In another pan, heat the 3 cups of milk and add the cardamom powder.
  2. In a bowl, mix the milk powder with 1 cup of water until smooth. Pour it into the heated milk.
  3. Add the khoya and condensed milk. Cook on medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes until it thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Prepare the bread

  1. Cut the bread slices into halves to make triangles. Heat oil in a pan and fry the bread until golden brown.
  2. Drain the excess oil on paper towels.

Assemble

  1. Dip the fried bread slices into the sugar syrup, making sure they are coated well.
  2. Arrange the soaked bread on a serving plate. Pour the cooled milk mixture over the bread, covering it evenly.
  3. Garnish with chopped almonds, pistachios or cashews.
